In the late 1800s, tattoo artists would hang up their designs in front of their booths to catch people’s attention, and the term “flash” referred to this artwork. Things like anchors, dice, swallows, and the forever popular “Mom”-in-a-heart tattoo are traditional types of flash. With this piece, I wanted to give my own twist on traditional flash tattoos using bold colors and high contrasts against the red leather.
