NET WRAITHS
An Interactive, Roving Masked/Costumed Character Performance
Net Wraiths (2025) is an interactive, roving masked performance that weaves mythology, environmental reflection, and ritual into a hauntingly memorable presence. Created for the Sacred Acre Festival in Ninilchik, Alaska, these enigmatic figures moved throughout the landscape as the “anti-guardians” of the event—historians and keepers of the ocean’s deepest and darkest memories.
Each mask, measuring 20 inches in height and 16 inches in width, was meticulously crafted from four heat-molded layers of Kydex plastic and adorned by hand with acrylic paint, fabric, wood, and selenite.
Co-created with Alexandra Sherwood, the Net Wraiths embodied the collective trauma endured by the oceans since the planet’s birth, reflecting this history outward like a mirror. Through silent interaction and evocative movement, the performance invited participants to confront humanity’s relationship with the natural world and to imagine pathways toward healing and stewardship.
